So what is German cuisine, and what do Germans like to eat?
German traditional food and drink is almost certainly more exciting than most people would expect it to be. Whilst there are regional variations in food culture, most German recipes focus heavily on bread, potatoes, and meat, especially pork, as well as plenty of greens, such as types of cabbage and kale.
German cuisine shares quite a few similarities with the food in neighbouring countries such as the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, and more.
Interestingly, while Germany is famous for its sausages, “Wurst” (sausage) often refers to the massive variety of cold-cut meats that Germans like to eat with a wide variety of artisan bread for breakfast and dinner—see Brotzeit.
